Daniel Gale, Head of Auctions at First for Auctions comments: “This kind of property comes up very rarely, there is nothing like it on the market at this price. Located in prime Brighton amongst the hustle and bustle of this much-loved seaside resort, it is a once-in-a-lifetime investment opportunity.”
Built in 1935, the Grade II Embassy Court was the first post-war building in Brighton, this blue plaque building was designed by architect Wells Wintemute Coates who was a key figure in the British modernism movement.
Designed in an L shape with 12 storeys, it fronts Kings Road in the South and Western Street to the East and was listed by English Heritage. At the time it was an extremely controversial piece of modernist architecture that divided opinion across the city. Homes here were originally let at high rents to wealthy residents, including Max Miller, Rex Harrison, and Terence Rattigan, and features enclosed balconies and England's first penthouse suites. At the time Embassy Court was dubbed "one of the most desirable and sought-after addresses in Brighton and Hove”, and today is no exception.
